What is the Endowment Fund?
The Unity Church of Dallas Endowment Fund is a vehicle designed to
receive gifts and appreciated resources from members, their families,
and friends. It is a perpetual Fund from which only the earnings are
distributed for furthering UCD’s mission. The Fund is separate and
distinct from day-to-day operating funds of the church that are provided
by members’ tithes and offerings.
How is the Fund administered?
The Endowment Fund Advisory Committee, a seven-member standing committee
of UCD, is chartered with making policy decisions and implementing these
policies in relation to the professional management team and
disbursement of the gifts as well as counseling and communicating with
members.
How is the Fund managed?
The Fund is professionally managed by Communities Foundation of Texas
and provides income to the church based upon our Fund’s market
value. The income will provide support for UCD’s target ministries
as set forth in the Endowment Fund Advisory
Committee Bylaws.
When is income disbursed?
The Fund is intended to exist in perpetuity, which means the principal
investment will not be diminished by withdrawals. A portion of the
income generated will be available for distribution on an annual basis
at the discretion of the Endowment Fund Advisory Committee. The more our
Fund grows, the
greater the increase in the income available for distribution.
How is income disbursed?
30%
- For capital improvements, a building program, or mortgage debt
reduction (not to include regularly scheduled amortization payments) of
UCD.
30%
- For outreach to the community in support of the programs of the
church, in coordination with the Unity Movement, and/or for the wider
mission of the Unity Movement at home and abroad (e.g. Silent Unity,
Unity School, colleges and universities, new church development,
educational ministries, disaster relief, etc.). Such allocations are in
addition to the church outreach budget.
For
educating, advertising and marketing UCD to
the general public; scholarships or grants to members of UCD for the
purpose of attending ministerial school, Licensed Unity Teacher
training, or other training which enables members of this congregation
to grow in faith and service to the Unity Movement.
30%
- For the goals of the Endowment Fund Advisory Committee. Funds are not to be
expended for any part of the regular operating budget of the church. At
the discretion of the Endowment Fund Advisory Committee, grants from the
Fund may
be allocated to special requests, projects or programs of the church
that are non-recurring expenditures.
10%
- For a tithe to the UCD general Fund.
How can I give to the Fund?
Outright Gifts
can be
cash, stocks, bonds, real estate.
To make a cash gift, make your check payable to Communities Foundation
of Texas and mail to them at 5500 Caruth Haven Lane, Dallas, Texas
75225. Be sure to indicate Unity Church of Dallas Endowment Fund
#05488 on your check.
Gifts by
Specific, Residuary, or Contingent Bequests
are the
giving of assets through a will or revocable living trust. There are
three types of bequeaths: specific/primary bequests of a dollar amount,
a percentage of your estate, or a specific piece of property; residuary
bequests which designate the Fund to receive the remainder of your
estate after all Specific Bequests have been made; and Contingent
Bequests which designate the Fund as the beneficiary if other
beneficiaries do not survive the Testator or Grantor.
Beneficiary Designations
are
accomplished by naming the Fund as a beneficiary in a retirement plan,
bank account, certificate of deposit, charitable trust or other
charitable vehicle, life insurance policy or other contractual agreement
where UCD is the only one or one of several beneficiaries. Never
make a beneficiary change, however, before consulting your professional
advisor who has expertise in these matters.
Individual Plans
can be
customized and gifts can be given anonymously or in memory or in honor
of someone. Income from the gifts will be used toward UCD’s needs as
outlined in the Fund’s Disbursement Directive.
