John
Dominic Crossan
The Historical Jesus Then and Now
John Dominic Crossan is one of the
world’s leading scholars of the historical Jesus – the study of the
real person and analysis of the culture, politics and religion of
that time. At UCD, Crossan will present a perspective of Jesus as a
homeland Jew within Judaism in the Roman Empire. His theme is built
upon the premise that for a dominant majority in that world,
Caesar’s titles– Divine, Son of God, God, etc. – were exactly the
same as Jesus’ titles for a tiny minority. The choice, then as now,
is between a world of force and violence or a world of justice and
peace: Rome then is America now. The imperial East is the global
West now. The choice before us is between global justice and global
violence.
Crossan is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies, DePaul
University, Chicago, a former co-chair of the Jesus Seminar, and a
former chair of the Historical Jesus Section of the Society of
Biblical Literature, an international scholarly association for
biblical study based in the United States. He is a former priest who
left the monastery when he was unable to pursue his convictions and
historical research. He has written 20 books on the historical Jesus
in the last 30 years, four of which have become national religious
bestsellers: The Historical Jesus (1991), Jesus: A Revolutionary
Biography (1994), Who Killed Jesus (1995), and The Birth of
Christianity (1998). Crossan’s interview credits include The New
York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston
Globe, National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air”, Larry King Live and the
ABC special “The Search for Jesus” with Peter Jennings. Other
writings can be found at Beliefnet.com.

Whether or not you are consciously aware of it, the Healer archetype

Freedom from the Tyranny of Disease
According
to a CBS poll recently featured in USA Today, 80% of Americans
believe that personal prayer or other spiritual practices can
speed the recovery of those who are ill, and 22% believe spiritual
practices have cured them completely. Yet many people get caught
up in the conflict between faith and science in the realm of
human affiliations.
According to Michele Longo O’Donnell, author of Monkeys
and Dragons: Freedom from the Tyranny of Disease, this battle
can mean the difference between life and death.

Rocco
Errico
Who is Jesus? New Light
on Jesus and the Gospels
The
last two decades have brought a great resurgence of interest
in the man Jesus. The question everywhere is: Who was Jesus?
Not only is there interest in Jesus, but the four gospels and
Jesus’ teachings have come under fire. How reliable are
the gospels? How were the gospels created; by whom, when, and
how were they composed? How reliable is the so-called Q hypothesis?
What is the gospel truth about Jesus? What was his vision and
message? What did Jesus really say? What was attributed to Jesus
that he did not say? Is his message practical for the modern
world?
We know that Jesus was an Aramaic speaking Semite. His life
and thought are only properly understood within the cosmopolitan,
creative, and diverse groups that formed early first century
Judaism of his time. Dr. Rocco A. Errico, world-renowned expert
on Semitic Near Eastern customs and the ancient Aramaic language
of Jesus, puts together a coherent portrait of Jesus and his
teachings for this special seminar.
Rocco
A. Errico, Ph.D., Th.D., is founder and president of Noohra
Foundation of Smyrna, Georgia. The Noohra Foundation is a nonprofit,
nonsectarian, spiritual educational organization of Aramaic
biblical studies, research, and publications. The Foundation
is also an alternative ministry of the Association of Unity
Churches, Lee’s Summit, MO. Dr. Rocco A. Errico is an

translator, Aramaic instructor, educator and spiritual counselor.

Greg
Baer, M.D.
The Power of Real Love
What we all need more than anything else is to be loved. But not
just any kind of love will do. We need to be loved unconditionally
– without doing anything to earn it. We need to feel cared
for no matter how badly we make mistakes or inconvenience the people
who love us.
In Dr. Baer’s seminar we learned: (1) The simple and powerfully
effective steps that will make it possible for us to find unconditional
love and real happiness; (2) how Real Love heals all wounds from
the past; (3) how to share Real Love with others; (4) how to eliminate
anger from our lives; and (5) how to be a better spouse, parent,
friend, employee, and employer.
For 20 years, Greg Baer was a highly successful surgeon, teacher,
civic and church leader, and businessman. Despite all his accumulated
wealth and respect, he still felt empty and unhappy. After overcoming
drug addiction and near suicide, he discovered a simple and powerfully
effective way to find genuine happiness, which he has now shared
with thousands. Greg has written four books about relationships
and parenting, including Real Love: The Truth about Finding
Unconditional Love and Fulfilling Relationships.Love: The Truth
about Finding Unconditional Love and Fulfilling Relationships.
Relationship
Training
Why
do we fall in and out of love? Why do our marriages and other relationships
often start out great but then become so much less satisfying? Why
do we get divorced? What is the real reason couples fight about
sex? Or money? Or anything else? How can you get everything you
want in a relationship?
Some
of the Seminar objectives:
• To help you understand why your partner behaves as he or
she does
• To help you see wiser choices you can make in your relationship
• To show you how you can eliminate anger in your relationship,
rather than merely trying to control it (which doesn’t work)
• To give you increased confidence handling the most difficult
situations in your relationship
• To show how great sex is the natural consequence of Real
Love

Arun
Gandhi
Nonviolence or Non-existence: Options for the 21st Century
Never in human history has there been so much hate, prejudice, and
violence as in the 20th century. As we enter the 21st century, Martin
Luther King’s statement, "The choice is now between nonviolence
or nonexistence" has become more relevant than ever. We need
to ask ourselves: Do we continue to live with the legacy of violence
and destroy our humanity, or do we seek alternatives that could
help us reduce violence in our societies?
Arun Gandhi, whose grandfather was Mahatma Gandhi, will offer a
practical approach to nonviolence, illustrated with examples of
how people have effectively used nonviolence in recent times to
overthrow dictatorships and resolve conflicts. In this context he
will also discuss his grandfather’s philosophy of nonviolence
and why nonviolence is the choice we must all make for the coming
century.

Gary
Zukav
Mind of the Soul — Responsible Choice
My life is dedicated to the birth of a new humanity. That birth
is now in progress. We are all involved in it. The new humanity
is being born inside us. We are awakening to new perceptions and
new values. These are leading us to new goals.
Our new perceptions are that the Universe is alive, wise, and compassionate.
It is a friendly place, not the violent, merciless place that we
have often made our small part of it. Our new values are the values
of the soul — harmony, cooperation, sharing, and reverence
for life. Our new goals are authentic power - the alignment of the
personality with the soul — and a planet without conflict.
Your soul is much more than your personality. It is the essence
of who you are. It existed before you were born, and it will exist
after you die. We are beginning to understand that all that we choose,
create, and experience is part of a learning process. That process
serves the evolution of our souls. This is the heart of the new
perception that is transforming the human experience. This is multisensory
perception, the ability to see and experience far beyond the limitations
of the five senses. Our species is becoming multisensory very fast.
Gary Zukav grew up in Kansas, graduated from Harvard, and served
in Viet Nam. In 1979 he wrote The Dancing Wu Li Masters
which won The American Book Award for Science. It has become the
bible for those who are interested in learning about quantum physics,
but who are not drawn to mathematics or science. In 1989 he wrote
The Seat of the Soul, a US National Best Seller about evolution
and the soul. In 1999 he wrote Soul Stories, which was
also a US National Bestseller. Gary's newest book is Mind of
the Soul - Responsible Choice. Gary
is a regular on the Oprah Winfrey Show and maintains a busy schedule
as a guest speaker throughout the country.

Christina
Baldwin
Creating an Inner Life that Supports Our Outer Life; and an Outer
Life that Supports Our Inner Life
This is the challenge of the modern age, says author Christina Baldwin
in her book, The Seven Whispers, Listening to the Voice of Spirit.
She believes we are living in a time when ordinary people can and
must change the course of history. "Not only prophets and bodisattvas
-- but you and me, ordinary people, are called into extraordinary
relationship with Divine Plan." We feel that invitation at
the edge of daily routines, but we may not know how to instill daily
spiritual practices that help us respond: an inner life that informs
our outer life. We may not know how to change patterns of work,
play, and relationship so that we create an outer life that supports
our inner life.
This afternoon seminar offered reflective writing exercises, dialogue,
and meditation to explore this integration.
Christina
Baldwin is an eloquent and witty speaker and educator, who integrates
the spiritual journey and the practical path. Whether offering a
retreat, presenting a workshop or speaking to conferences, Christina’s
vibrancy, talent, and unique body of knowledge provides an enlivening
experience. Christina has taught nationally and internationally
since the mid-1970s, and has contributed classic books in the emerging
bodies of knowledge around personal writing, group process and spirituality.
Her first work, One to One: Self-Understanding through Journal Writing
is a pioneering text that has remained in continuous print for a
quarter of a century. Her marvelous sequel, Life's Companion, Journal
Writing as a Spiritual Quest, extended the art of journal writing
to spiritual practice.

Rocco
Errico
The Mystical Christ: The Gospel of John
John’s gospel casts Jesus in a manner distinct from the synoptic
gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. The writer of John was a mystic
and in his gospel we find the mystical Christ — that is, a
cabalistic path that opens the hearts and minds of Jesus’
followers to a personal and receptive union with god. It is referred
to as “mystical theology.”
John guides a disciple of Jesus from the initial acceptance of the
kingdom of God along a path that leads to a deeper metaphysical
understanding. He reveals Jesus as the Living Word, Bread of Life,
the Good Shepherd, Manna from Heaven, and more. John introduces
a spirit filled way of living — a
Christ consciousness that awakens the inner powers of life, light
and truth in every disciple of the risen Christ.
In this seminar, Dr. Errico worked with the vital and important
chapters of John’s gospel. He presents new translations from
the Aramaic that open some of the mystical way in the fourth gospel.
Rocco A. Errico, Ph.D., Th.D., is founder and president of Noohra
Foundation of Smyrna, Georgia. The Noohra Foundation is a nonprofit,
nonsectarian, spiritual educational organization of Aramaic biblical
studies, research, and publications. The Foundation is also an alternative
ministry of the “Association of Unity Churches”, Lee’s

author, Bible authority, translator, Aramaic instructor, educator

The
Tomb Was Not Empty
The Resurrection of Jesus and Life
Bishop John Shelby Spong
Is
it real or just a human yearning? Is it physical or non-physical?
Does the Bible really assert that Jesus walked out of the grave
alive? What need does the idea of Life after Death serve in our
lives and in human history? Is the hope of Life after Death the
last vestige of self-consciousness? Can Christianity survive without
this conviction? Should it? These will be the questions raised in
a lecture series by John Shelby Spong, retired Episcopal Bishop
of Newark and widely regarded as America's most provocative religious
thinker.

Cherie
Carter Scott, Ph.D.
If Love is a Game, These are the Rules: Ten Rules for Finding Love and
Creating Authentic Relationships
Cherie
presented ten simple rules to help us find true love and create long-lasting,
authentic relationships. After twenty-five years of conducting workshops
and seminars, Cherie has discovered that the most important and
often the most difficult part of the human experience is partnership.
Everyone is either looking for love or trying to find a way to sustain
and feed the love that they already have. These ten rules are universal
truths that we inherently know but often lose sight of in the confusing
game of romance-rules as simple as You Must Love Yourself First,
Communication is Essential, and You Must Nurture Your
Relationship to Thrive. Her inspirational stories, coupled with
practical refreshing exercise such as creating a criteria list
for a potential mate to making an outline for a formal relationship
check-in will bring out the authentic lover in each of us. Fresh
and inspiring, the Love presentation is a perfect guide to living a
real-life happily ever after.
Stephen
Lewis
The Technology of Prayer in Healing
Stephen
Lewis describes his background in Subtle Energy as an "inevitable
synthesis" because "he can't think of anything that isn't
energy."
He initially
became fascinated with Oriental medicine, philosophy and religion, which
are based entirely on energy. One of his healing arts degrees is in
acupuncture. He later underwent his "German period," pursuing
the findings of Wilhelm Reich and later Vol and Shimmell, the founders
of Radionics. In keeping with his energy-based concepts, Stephen also
earned a degree in homeopathy, which is an entirely energy-based healing
art.
During
his years in private practice, Stephen was guided to develop his techniques
for energetic evolution and energetic balancing. In the course of that
guidance, he understood that balances that imbalances first exist in
consciousness, then the etheric body and, lastly, in the physical realm.
With that consideration, he felt it was no longer appropriate for him
to be in practice with patients, but rather to focus on the realm of
spirituality. Therefore, he and Evan Slawson co-founded the energetic
Matrix Church of Consciousness, LLC, also known as EMC2, in order to
find imbalance in consciousness and help people remove these imbalances.

and Enchanted Love. She is also the author of Emma and

Energy of Money
Maria Nemeth,
Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and a former clinical professor in
the Dept. of Psychiatry at the University of California-Davis School
of Medicine. Her tape series and seminars have helped thousands of people
create ongoing affluence and financial ease.
This course
is designed for people who want to improve their relationship with money
and who wish to bring clarity and ease to their lives. The question
is about you and your relationship with money. It is about scarcity
and abundance. This course is about creating the best possible relationship
you can have with money. And, it is about having what you truly want
in life while gaining clarity and ease on the path you will pursue to
fulfill your fondest goals.
Joan
Borysenko
Forgiveness and Grace
Forgiveness
is both a process and an attitude. In the process of forgiveness, we
convert suffering created by our own mistakes or as a result of being
hurt by others into psychological and spiritual growth. In forgiveness,
we attain happiness and serenity by letting go of the ego's incessant
need to judge others and ourselves.
The psychological
case for forgiveness is overwhelmingly persuasive. Not to forgive is
to be imprisoned by the past, a block to the flow of the divine energy
of life. Not to forgive is to yield oneself to another's control. If
one does not forgive, then one is controlled by another's impact, locked
into a cycle of action, reaction, and revenge. The present is overwhelmed
and devoured by the past. Those who do not forgive are least capable
of changing the circumstances of their lives. In this sense, forgiveness
is a shrewd and practical strategy for a person to pursue: forgiveness
frees the forgiver.
Forgiveness
is ultimately a gift of grace. We can neither forgive other people or
ourselves out of our own volition. If we communicate this desire to
forgive in heartfelt prayer, we attract grace.

Victoria
Moran
Younger by the Day
When Victoria Moran encountered midlife, she was dismayed by the changes
in her body. She began a four-year journey asking: Why do some women
blossom with age while others wither? How can you accept yourself
as you are and still become better? How can you draw from your inner
wisdom to deal with life’s uncertainties as well as the certainty
of growing older?
The answers she found were distilled into her latest book, Younger
by the Day. At UCD, she will offer a workshop to discuss the secrets
of attaining more energy and vibrancy, health and beauty, power and
purpose, no matter what your age.
Lifelong Unity student Victoria Moran holds a degree in comparative
religions and is the author of earlier books including Creating a
Charmed Life and Fit from Within. She has been a guest on Oprah and
on NPR’s All Things Considered, and featured in USA Today, Parade,
Self, Woman’s Day, Health, Fitness, and O, the Oprah Magazine.

by the Day is not your typical daily calendar. Moran has packed

–Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life
“Younger
by the Day ... is a path for awakening the timeless part of yourself
– the part that shines through and makes you appear ageless,
no matter how old you are!”

Wisdom

What
The Bleep Do We Know?
What the Bleep Do We Know?! is
a new type of film. It is part documentary, part story, and part
elaborate and inspiring visual effects and animations. The
protagonist, Amanda, played by Marlee Matlin, finds herself in a
fantastic Alice in Wonderland experience when her daily, uninspired
life literally begins to unravel, revealing the uncertain world of
the quantum field hidden behind what we consider to be our normal,
waking reality.

The melodic, soul-stirring music of Douglas Blue Feather touches and
uplifts the spirit. Blue Feather, who is of Cherokee heritage, is
an award-winning songwriter, recording artist and performer of contemporary
and traditional Native American flute music. He has released five
CDs that have been featured on radio worldwide.
The highlights of Blue Feather’s career include winning the
2003 Native American Music Award for Flutist of the Year and the 2002

honored that people refer to me as a master, but like any musical
instrument, the flute is still teaching me. I've been playing the
Native flute since 1997, shortly after starting to honor my own
Cherokee heritage and beginning my journey on the Red Road (Native
American spiritual path). My music has become much more than I dreamed
and is more than just a musical journey, it's a spiritual journey
as well. It really is a gift from the Creator.”

Dr. Joe
Dispenza
Currently starring in the film What The Bleep Do We Know?
Your Brain and Your
Potential
The Science of Creating Personal
Reality
If you liked What the Bleep,
come hear Dr. Joe Dispenza speak at Unity Church of Dallas. Dr. Joe,
one of the "talking heads" in What the Bleep, insists that we
can rewire our brains to change any aspect of our lives. His life’s
work is to promote breakthroughs in understanding the human brain
and how every individual can improve his or her "personal universe".
At Unity Church of Dallas, Dr. Joe
will connect the latest scientific findings about the brain with
enhancing our human experience.
He is known for a style that is enthusiastic,
personable and often humorous.
"The implication
of this research" says Dr. Dispenza, "is that if we give our brain
the knowledge and experiences it needs to create new synaptic
connections, and use repetition to further develop these connections
we begin to see long-lasting, even permanent changes in behavior."

Tom
Zender
Journey of Renewal
Three years ago, the great-granddaughter of Unity’s founders,
Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, decided that if Unity was to grow and
spread its message in the world, it needed to grow from a family-controlled
church business into a real corporation. Tom Zender, an experienced
corporate executive from California and a Unity church member, was
named President, the first person outside the Fillmore family ever
to head Unity.
Since then, change has been constant at Unity Village. Now, Unity’s
world headquarters is undertaking a new project called Journey of
Renewal.
Tom Zender will visit Unity Church of Dallas to talk about the changes
within Unity overall and his plans for Unity worldwide. UCD is one
of the largest churches in the movement and shares Unity’s mission
to let the world know about our teachings.
After the church services, Zender will stay for a lunch in Fellowship
Hall to talk about the Journey of Renewal and plans to build endowments
that ensure Unity Village will remain an oasis and beacon of peace
in the world for decades to come.

Sallye
Taylor
Jesus: His Walk, His Talk, His Vision & the God He Worshipped
Rev. Taylor will also be speaking at the 9 and 11 am services.
In Unity we call Jesus our “Wayshower” and see him —
and the demonstrations of Christ consciousness he made — as
a pattern or paradigm to follow in living a Spirit-centered life.
It might be said that Jesus’ goal was to convince us to shift
radically our perception of who we are and what our world is like.
His teachings and example challenge us to see ourselves as whole and
complete.
Over the course of these two days, the dynamic Rev. Sallye Taylor
will lead us on a journey through Jesus’ message. We will examine
how Jesus’ words and deeds influence our lives, and we will
discover the benefits we can reap by embracing a heart-centered faith
in God as modeled by the historical Jesus.
Sunday’s two-hour workshop will compare Unity’s perspective
of Jesus with the findings of the Jesus Seminar.
Monday evening we will learn to experience the truth about ourselves
through Jesus’ parables.
Sallye Taylor, founder and Minister of Soul Food Unity Ministry, has
served on the staff of Unity School of Christianity as a member of
the retreat staff and as chair of biblical studies. Prior to founding
Soul Food Unity, she served as minister of Unity of Jefferson City,
MO; as a pioneer of Unity in the Inner City, Kansas City, MO, and
as senior minister of Unity Church of Austin, TX. She developed her
speaking and teaching skills in the classroom of big city public schools
in Memphis and Chicago. She has a degree in psychology and education
from Tennessee State University, has done graduate work at the University
of Chicago and at St. Paul’s School of Theology in Kansas City,
MO. She was ordained a Unity minister in 1979.

Jesus
Seminar on the Road
The Search for the Historical Paul
The 20-year-old Jesus Seminar comprises more than 200 Bible scholars
and specialists who are on a quest for the historical Jesus. Their
fascinating and controversial findings have made news in theological
circles for years and have brought many new books about Jesus into
the mainstream. The Five Gospels is their translation of Matthew,
Mark, Luke, John and Thomas, color-coded to mark the sentences Jesus
most likely said or didn’t say. With Jesus Seminar on the Road,
two of the scholars will be at UCD for seminars on Paul, whose version
of Christianity has often overshadowed the teachings of Jesus.
Rediscovering the Real Paul
The legacy of the Apostle Paul dominates the shape of early Christianity.
He is credited as the author of half of the New Testament, and he
is the dominant character in the Book of Acts. The seminars begin
with a search for the historical Paul.
Reading and Translating Paul The key to interpreting Paul is to understand his writing style,
then to know something about how his letters were translated into
English. This workshop examines traditional Christian concepts such
as “righteousness” and “faith” and explains
how the Jesus Seminar translates them.
Relevance and Irrelevance in Paul Paul is often blamed – or credited – for many of the
moral positions now debated in our culture. What exactly did Paul
say about sexuality and the role of women among Christians? How
did he understand the meaning of Jesus’ death? Paul tried
to shape the official Christian view on such issues, but what does
it mean today?
