THE
VIRTUE VENTURE
What is
a virtue? When asked what she thought virtues were, a six-year-old girl
simply said, "Virtues are what's good about us! Virtues are the
contents of our soul; they are the God qualities we all possess."
By combining two powerful books; The Family Virtue Guide by Linda
Kavelin Popov and The 12 Powers of Man by Charles Fillmore, the
Family Ministries team has created The Virtue Venture program, which
calls people to remembrance of their virtues, the qualities of character
and the simple elements of spirituality.
In The
Family Virtues Guide you discover the meaning to 52 virtues. Virtues
such as caring, compassion, generosity or humility. The book also teaches
five strategies, which supports us in calling forth and defining virtues
in our life. The five strategies are: Speaking the Language of Virtues,
Recognizing Teachable Moments, Setting Clear Boundaries, Honoring the
Spirit and The Art of Spiritual Companioning. When practiced, the five
strategies combined with the 52 virtues make "the sacred"
accessible in everyday life.
In The
12 Powers of Man, we discover what the twelve disciples represent
in our ongoing spiritual development. For example, the first apostle
that Jesus called was Peter. Peter represents faith in things spiritual,
faith in God. We begin our religious experience by recognizing our Unity
with God. We begin with faith. We go on to learn that John represents
love, Andrew represents strength: James, good judgment; Philip, power;
Bartholomew, imagination; Thomas, understanding; Matthew, will; James,
order; Simon, enthusiasm; Thaddeus, purity; and Judas, life.
By joining
the two books, we are given spiritual tools that encourage us to give
life our best effort!
