Ida was born and raised on the Texas Gulf coast. Having had polio as a child she spent her formative years
with her parents seeking doctors who would give them hope that she might be able to walk again. After
surgeries at age of three and wearing braces for years, Ida proved them wrong and walked and has not
stopped since.
After graduating from NTSU in Denton in 1970 with a double major in French and Spanish and many hours in
music, she taught her languages at the secondary level for 24 years loving every minute of each day with as
many as 150+ students per day. Her retirement year from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD came in 2009. Her
life as a teacher had her sponsoring Spanish Honor Society, Leadership for Hispanic Women, assisting with the
French Honor Society, doing mediation training, organizing parent teacher meetings with non-English speaking
parents, working with the Basketball Boosters Club, traveling to Europe with students, organizing Cinco de
Mayo festivities for student. Her most rewarding years were those when she taught AP classes in Spanish
Literature and Grammar for those students wanting to receive college credits for these courses. She received
innumerable awards for her dedication to teaching while with the CFBISD.
Her faith and prayers from our Unity prayer
warriors got her through maintenance on her right ankle and the partial severing of her pinky a year ago, and
she is ready and receptive to whatever life has in store for her in the future.
